5 Most questions that are common highschool Seniors over the Holidays

Oahu is the most happiest time of the year, right? Christmas are great for catching up with friends and until you actually can’t anymore. As being a school that is high you should also plan the barrage of questions you will probably face about your future university plans. Don’t allow these questions catch you by surprise. Read on to find out of the kinds of questions friends and families love to ask over the vacations.

1. How are those university applications coming along? Are you all done?

Ideally, your response is a relieved yes! I constantly recommend that students finish their apps before the holiday season making sure that they can in fact enjoy their break. But don’t worry if you’re not done at this time. The main thing is in before the deadline that you turn them.

2. Just What colleges are you applying to? Why aren’t you deciding on xyz college?

School pride is really a thing that is great but don’t ever allow someone force you into applying to a college just because they went here (even Uncle Tim). Colleges also come in all sizes and locations, and one size undoubtedly does maybe not fit all. Research your facts, and stick to an inventory that produces sense for you.

3. Exactly what are you likely to learn?

The short answer is that you do not understand yet. Even if you’ve been admitted already the odds are fairly likely that you will alter your mind, maybe even before starting college. Such as the previous question, friends and family members like to weigh in when it comes to list of positive actions together with your life. While advice could be great, be certain to discover the fit that is best for you.

4. Exactly what are you going to accomplish with that degree?

Maintaining with the theme that family and friends always thinking they know best, you should never allow someone make you feel bad about what you need to pursue. Do not get me wrong, it is important to have a have a plan and set goals, but you will probably be more productive you actually enjoy if you pursue something.

5. Did you hear so and so got in early to…?

This is 2015. With social networking, everyone typically understands each other’s university decisions minutes after their peers are notified. Do not let college decisions get under the skin or cause a riff in the middle of your friends. Classmates will inevitably brag or gloat, but don’t allow you be caused by it to lose your cool.

Mythbuster: I’m enthusiastic about Business, but I’m using as Undecided because that will give me a better shot at Admission

The Myth: It’s easier to get in as undecided than a significant in a professional school.

The Verdict: Not at USC.

Of all the myths I’ll talk about this year, I’m pretty sure here is the one I face the most as an admission professional. I’ve lost count of exactly how many students come up to me after an event or school that is high and say something like, ‘The opportunities into the Marshall class of Business are perfect. We intend to learn business at USC, but i am thinking of applying as undecided since Marshall is super competitive.’

Yes, Marshall is competitive. So are engineering, communication, music, undecided, and every major at USC. The overall admission procedure is highly selective, and students defintely won’t be at an advantage if they apply undecided. In fact, it is in students’s best interest to apply to their major of choice they want to study in college if they know what. Students at USC begin inside their major right away and have the ability to make use of their program’s resources in their very first semester on campus.

The USC Writing Supplement on the Common Application permits pupils to list a first and 2nd choice major. Students can be considered for their top choice first, and if a student is maybe not found a fit for that major, they will be viewed for their 2nd option major as well as undecided. We evaluate a pupil’s complement all appropriate options when reviewing applications.

Some majors do like to see preparation and fit for major. For instance, a student applying to business must have four years of strong high college mathematics. Engineering and science applicants need four years of strong math and science. This doesn’t make admission to these majors any harder or easier for a particular student; it just ensures that we are seeking additional ways that a student are going to be a complement their applied major. The six visual and performing art schools are looking for artists who are willing and desperate to expand their existing talents. The amount of applicants for these art programs along with the review that is subjective may make admission into the art programs competitive, but it wouldn’t be any easier for a student to get into an art system at a later time if they originally had been admitted to USC as another major.

I think the good explanation why this discussion also occurs is really because a student actually desires to enter into USC and will do whatever needs doing to increase their opportunities. My advice is to the major that interests you. It will enable you to respond to our questions with passion and excitement, which will help us determine your fit for your major and for USC.
